Using
my focus group – Genre and Name of magazine.
I asked my focus
group which type of music they would be most interested in reading about in a magazine;
I gave them the following options:
Pop
Pop
RnB
Indie
Mixture of Pop and RnB
Other
Indie
Mixture of Pop and RnB
Other
70% said they would be more interested in a
mixture of Pop and R&B whilst 20% said they would be interested in
just indie and 10% said they would be more interested in other types.
The following are magazine names that I have come up with; they
are all related to music and include an element of edge/fashion to fit in with
the style of magazine I am going for.
Rouge
Strobe
Icon
Edge
Radar
I asked my focus
group which of the names they liked more for a pop and R&B magazine which
is taking on the design of a stereotypical fashion magazine or whether they
could suggest anything they think suited the magazine even more so. 40% said
they preferred the name Strobe, and 60%
said they preferred the name Radar.
From this I have decided that my magazine will contain genres of pop and R n B to broaden the audience. I have also decided to use the name
Radar as this was the most popular and it is short and recognisable.
-Creating my focus
group.
In the process of planning and
producing my own music magazine, I have put together a focus group containing
people who are representive of my target audience, which consists of ages 16-30
and that have an interest in music. I asked them to state their opinions on
decisions in which needed to be made with the magazine. This should help me to
make a more appealing magazine for my target audience as these people fit the
criteria that I am aiming at. I created this focus group on Facebook and will
contact and keep up to date with them via this, by posting questions in need of
their opinion, and they too can suggest ideas to me.
