How well does your preliminary task fulfill the brief?
The brief was completed within my Front cover and contents page of ‘Student’ magazine which i created through the use of Photoshop, using my own photographs. This magazine is aimed at school students (which meets the brief requirements). It is more towards a female audience which I hoped to make obvious through use of colour and girly associated vocabulary. I could have possibly made the shot closer to fit more within the medium close up shot accurately.
What obstacles did you overcome in order to complete the preliminary task?
I wasn’t so confident with using Photoshop as I have only used it briefly when at home, but I felt this small experience helped with the making of the magazine, for I just had to play around a little with the programme to finish with a magazine in which I was satisfied with.
How could you have improved the production values of your preliminary task?
There are a couple of things I feel I could have adapted to improve the quality of my preliminary task, such as taking an image with slightly better lighting, although this was then fixed upon the use of Photoshop. I also would have liked to know how to edit my font in different more edgy ways, so could have watched tutorials in order to do this. The front cover of my magazine could have been made more girly possibly by adding more pinks and effects.
What tutorials did you use in order to help you complete the preliminary task?
I didn’t watch any tutorials to help with this task; however I did begin to watch one on YouTube but did not find it useful as it was not very clear to follow. I used knowledge based on what I already knew about Photoshop and worked around with it until I was pleased with the result.
What important lessons have you learned in preparation for completing your main task?
I have learnt more skills on Photoshop in order to benefit the completion of my main task. I now have a rough guideline of what the main task will look like and have a structure to follow instead of having nothing to look back on and gain ideas from. I have learnt that there is information online if needed when unsure.
